Food for talk

People across Europed demand #GoodFood4EU!

Voices captured during multiple Food for Talk visits across Europe leave no doubt: Farmers, fishers, activists and citizens demand change now! Despite the recent attack towards food policies by populist conservative politicians, people in Europe want a transformation of our food system.

As part of the Green Deal, the European Commission promised to deliver a proposal for  a Sustainable Food Systems law (SFS) this fall, which could put all food policy under one umbrella and set cross-cutting, ambitious standards.

We count on the European Commission for a strong SFS law – based on science and social needs – so we can defend our food system from industrial, toxic practices and ensure healthy, affordable and sustainable food for all!

Why act now?

Despite the many calls for a timely proposal from civil-society, EU Commission officials avoided confirming the long-awaited SFS publication date in September. A recent push-back from the Regulatory Scrutiny Board has further caused uncertainties on the SFS´s timely publication. Thus, now is the right moment to demonstrate our support. With our action, we underline the need for an ambitious law and urge the EU Commission to deliver their proposal in time. Timing is key as the government in Brussels has to enshrine its Green Deal promises in law before the upcoming EU elections in 2024. EU citizens are eager to receive a legislation that guarantees good food for all!

More on Food for Talk:

The first part of each Food for Talk visit consisted of a guided tour around place. Then, the participants engaged in a structured discussion and co-created political demands for EU decision-makers to listen.

The conversations were solution orientated and commented on aspects such as public food procurement, agroecology and fair prices for producers and citizens. The visits were documented by a videographer, which provided the material for our powerful campaign video. With this action, farmers, fishers, activist, chefs, market vendors and citizens get loud for a sustainable food system transformation!

Local Videos

During May 2023, 11 different organisations across Europe organized a discussion on their local food system. By coming together at a farm (Ireland), bakery (Bulgaria), fishery (Denmark), hospital canteen (Germany) and many more meaningful places, people exchanged their views on good food and farming.
